Advisor to H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco visits «Isinbaeva Cup» in Volgograd
Joël Bouzou, Founder and President of “Peace and Sport” Foundation, President of World Olympians Association, world champion, Olympic medallist of modern pentathlon and advisor to H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco at the personal invitation of the two-time Olympic champion Yelena Isinbaeva visited an Athletics competition «Isinbaeva Cup» in Volgograd.
Joël Bouzou also met with Volgograd region Governor and discussed with him the issues concerning the development of sport in the region, the forthcoming FIFA World Cup and the positive influence of sport on the life of the society.
The governor described the work that was being carried out on renovation of the sports base in Volgograd, in particular in the frames of the preparation for the FIFA World Cup in 2018. This heritage will become the ground for future generations’ sports skills improvement.
«FIFA World Cup is not just an important competition for us. It’s a chance to provide new living standards for people. We are changing the infrastructure which was created in the previous century. - underlined the governor. – We’ve set goals and we have to reach them. We hold an interest in the development of contacts and in promotion of all our achievements to the international level.»
«The work of the Charity fund and Yelena Isinbaeva’s personal work set the example for us all. Thanks to her input she received a special status “Champions for peace”. We are concerned with making sport the heart of the social politics in the frames of the development of a dialogue and strengthening the relations inside the world society. By uniting children and teenagers from different parts of Russia Yelena Isinbayeva encourages the development of self-esteem, mutual respect and social solidarity. We are sharing the same values in the “Peace and Sport” Association, that is why I accepted Yelena’s invitation to visit Volgograd.» Bouzou said.
This is the second time a competition for the prizes of a two-time Olympic gold medallist Yelena Isinbaeva is held. During two weeks children of 15 and 16 years of age from all Russia were competing in different sports events such as 100 m run, 200 m run, 400 m run, 800 m run, 1500 m run, 110 m hurdles, 300 m hurdles, 4x100 m relay race, long jump, triple jump, high jump and shot put. Also athletes of all ages competed in pole vaulting. Famous Volgograd athletes – Olympic champions Tatiana Lebedeva, Yelena Slesarenko, Maksim Opelev, Larisa Ilichenko - were present at the competition and took part in the awarding ceremony. The competition was organized by Yelena Isinbaeva Charity fund with support from Rostec Corporation, MK20, CSKA and Adidas Company.
Isinbaeva Cup is held in the frames of the Charity fund’s programme “Our support – their Victories” with the aims to promote athletics among children, to bring out the strongest young athletes, to improve sports skills of the young athletes and to promote pole vaulting in Russia.
