October 18: charitable colour run

Another new project was implemented by Yelena Isinbayeva Charity Foundation on 18 October 2015. This time it was a bright sport event in the city! The idea of a 5 km colour run, where at each kilometre the runners were shot with dry ecologically clean paint, was put into practice for the first time in Volgograd. It became possible to hold this event thanks to the help of the IAAF programme “Athletics for a Better World”. Sunny weather, excited runners, and happy emotions became the essential parts of the colour run. Volgograd turned into a brightly coloured city where its residents could join together for a common reason: to run the unforgettable 5 kilometres in their life and become the donors of Yelena Isinbayeva Fund.

Volgograd Olympic gold medallists Yelena Slesarenko, Maksim Opalev, Larisa Ilchenko, the CSKA head Colonel Mikhail Barishev and European high jump gold medallist Marina Kuptsova were among the honoured guests invited by Yelena Isinbayeva to take part in the run. All participants of the run were wearing T-shirts prepared by the Charity fund and had an inscription “Together we are strong!”. This is true: when everyone gives a bit of help, there is a significantly good deed in the end.

202 people took part in this run and as a result 262 500 rubles were collected by the fund. The money will be used for arranging and holding a sports festival for the disabled children.

Although the colour run wasn’t a competition and the racers’ results were not measured, the fund decided to mark three women and men who were the first to finish the race. They are Aleksandr Chudakov, Alina Markova, Denis Frolov, Nadezhda Korotkova, Aleksandr Sukhorukov and Anna Sichugova. Aleksey Kostuchenko who went 5 km in a wheel chair was rewarded non-competitively for his will to victory.

It was a pleasure to see the Volgograd companies teams as participants of the run. They were the ones to show that everyone can help the fund by not being indifferent and to have fun together with his colleagues. We express thanks to VTB-24, SuchiVesla , Blinberry , VolgaFit, MegaFon, Promsvyazbank, Ministry of Interior Affairs of the Volgograd region and “Stalingrad Battle” museum. A special thanks to the Coca-Cola Company for providing drinks for the participants of the run and food pharmacy “Tasty and Healthy” (Вкусно и полезно) for providing healthy fruit bars. The Charity Foundation expresses gratitude to Nord-Line company and personally to Yulia Bokareva, Aleksandr Malashkin and the volunteers team for helping to organise and hold the event.

It’s great that Volgograd has so many people who are willing to help with words, with deeds and their personal participation for achieving the goals of the fund’s current programmes. The start of such initiatives has been marked and we hope that next year there will be much more participants of the colour run! Sport, team and mutual help are the basis of the positive changed in life!
